About Workshop
The Government of Bangladesh passed " Bangladesh Labour Act, 2006" on October 11, 2006 repealing 25 important Labour Laws which includes factories Act, 1965, Shops and Establishments Act, 1965, Employment of Labour (S.O) Act, 1965, Payment of Wages Act, 1936,Workmen's Compensation Act, 1923, Industrial Relations Ordinance, 1969 etc.
This new law has introduced a good number of important items like retirement benefit, death benefit, appointment letter, enhancement of compensation amounts both for death and permanent disability, introduction of provident fund for workers, punishment for sexual harassment etc.
The scope of the Labour Act has also been widened to include NGO's, Hospitals etc. Besides, this new Act has enhanced the powers of the Labour Court as a result of which the Court will now be in a position to issue stay order, injunction and in some cases it can even realize the wages of the workers through sale of employer's property by auction sale. In short, this new Act has brought about a lot of important changes in the field of labour management.
Workshop topics to be covered:
Objectives:
This workshop is being organized for achieving the following:
a) To familiarize the participants with the main provisions of the new Labour Law.
b) To acquaint them with different newly introduced schemes like death, benefit, retirement benefit, new types of punishments, sale of property by the Court by auction, provident fund, new types of unfair labor practices, new power of Labor Court and Labor Appellate Tribunal, Sexual harassment of female workers etc.
c) To clarify confusions of participants about different provisions of labour law.
d) To clarify about the modern system of enquiry and the role of management in this connection.
e) To answer to the queries of the participants regarding different provisions of Bangladesh Labor Act, 2006.
All the important provisions of this new Labor will be thoroughly discussed with the help of Case Laws as far as possible.
