About Workshop
Each year, 4% of the global GDP is lost as a consequence of workplace incidents, and in the redressal of occupational health related issues.
This is probably the reason that each forward-looking company in the world is now stressing the need of management of HSE (Health, Safety, Environment) and each organization is designating exclusive managers for management of HSE.
However, many organizations are far away from managing their OH & S risks effectively. Most of our local organizations are fumbling with the mammoth task of eliminating the hazards and managing the RISKs. Very few organizations can boast of an OH & S management system that is robust, reliable and firmly based on the principles of accident prevention.
Our systems are more of reactive in nature, whilst the obligation of OH & S management is for it to be preventive in nature.
OHSAS 18001:2007 has gained such popularity in the field of management of OH & S of an organization that it is no more called a specification. It is now recognized as a standard, which is universally accepted as the ideal model for OH & S management of organizations risks associated with its processes, products or services.
OHSAS 18001:2007 is basically focused on a management system which identifies the hazards associated with its activities, products and services and the legal and other requirements that are related to those hazards. It then sets objectives and management programs to maintain legal compliance as a minimum and eliminate or reduce the risk, following a hierarchy of control – i.e. – Elimination, Substitution, Engineering Control, Administrative Control and PPE, following a logical sequence of starting from the most beneficial one to the manageable one.
It also takes care of the other pertinent elements of management systems – e.g. – management commitment, competence, communication, documentation, operational controls, participation and consultations, monitoring and measurement, nonconformities and their treatment, corrective/preventive actions and management review. The whole standard is designed on PDCA cycle and it is fully compatible with ISO 14001:2004.
Workshop topics to be covered:
Multimedia presentations, exercises and workshops on the various clauses of OHSAS 18001 will develop the skill of understanding, interpreting and implementing the requirement of the standard and auditing the system as well. The learning method is open, participative and stimulating.
Everyone leaves the class with an edge that is badly needed in our fledgling industry.
