ISO 14001:2004
Management of Environment remains an issue of grave concern for many industries today. The growing consciousness of the human species for the environmental changes, brought about by the rapid and un-controlled industrialization in the past, and even at present, gave rise to endeavours for finding viable solutions to the environment dilemma. The debate and conflicts never end. However, amidst all those outcries, conflicts and confusions, one standard stands out with high image. It is ISO 14001:2004, the worldwide acceptance of which is growing progressively.
Based on simple and commonsense approach, it provides highly effective means of identifying, evaluating, controlling, and above all, managing all its environmental aspects, resulting in minimal but known impact on the environment.
In Bangladesh, various process industries are now getting aligned to this standard and experts forecast a rapid growth of certification to ISO 14001:2004 in coming days.
INTERNAL AUDITS
Almost all management system standards require Internal Audits to be a mandatory element. ISO 14001:2004 is no exception.
In order to have a true implementation of ISO 14001:2004, organizations need to have a strong internal auditing system established inside. Good internal auditors are key to success of an Environmental Management System.
The course begins with an introduction to Environmental Management System and then enumerates key elements of ISO 14001:2004. Upon providing the interpretation and practical implementation of each of the clauses, the management of audit and its basic technicalities are explained.
Management system audits are not code of conduct audits and hence, demonstrate a distinct uniqueness from other audits. It is done with lot of technical, academic and psychological intelligence, articulation and finesse.
The success of a management system audit is highly dependent on the skill of the auditors. Hence, organizations intending to implement ISO 14001:2004, require to have adequate number of skilled internal auditors.
MOST IMPORTANTLY, SKILLS GAINED IN AUDITING ONE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM STANDARD HELP QUICK LEARNING OF THE OTHER SYSTEMS AUDITS. Which means, one who knows auditing ISO 14001:2004 would learn auditing against ISO 9001:2000 standard faster.
