RMG industry is the most vital sectors of Bangladesh national economy. Major foreign currency earnings come from this sector and it is mentionable that 2 million workers are working in this sector of which almost 80% workers are female and 20% is male. Due to this industry number of backward linkage sector, Bank, Insurance and others business related industries established in our country. But this sector is now faced with a challenging situation due to open market; withdraw of quota system, Generalized System of Preference (GSP) and MFA-phase out, etc.
Since, 2005 the Quota free system started in the RMG industry and at the same time international buyers are pressurizing on the issue of Compliance. Before placing the orders at the factory buyers are auditing the factories to assess the labour standards and meeting whether or not they are-employment conditions, working conditions, occupational safety and health, industrial relation and management systems exactly to the words.
The main problem is that the people those are working in the compliance, administration even human resource division/section have little or no adequate/required knowledge and understanding to handle the compliance issues.
