Shipping is a part of Operations Management (OM) is systematic design, direction and control of process that transform inputs into service and product for internal and external customers. Our garments sector is running without proper practice of Shipping Procedures. Management of garments industry is not clearly aware of Shipping Procedures. But, proper practice of Shipping Procedures can reduce the cost to ensure sustainable growth of the company.

Shipping Industry is the potential sector in our country. History of shipping turn back our eyes to the fourth century before Christ when the Yemeni and the Arab traders of Babylone use to take berth at Indian Ports of Surat, Coachin and Chittagong as they had a business link with Grece, Macedonia and in the East with India , Java, Sumatra and China. Chittagong was treated as one of the finest ports in the near and far east at that time.

TQM of shipping is defined as an integrated approach of management by which quality services can be ensured to the customers. Shipping companies are service oriented and satisfaction of customers by providing excellent services is the prerequisite of shipping business. Shipping Procedure is required for ensuring customers satisfaction started from exporter door ended to importer door and cost reduction from suppliers as well as buyer’s account.

It has been observed, sometimes, interdepartmental problems happened due to non practice of shipping procedure. But on the other hand knowledge of shipping can ensure smooth operations of export and import required for total quality services to our valued customers. Door to Door service is the popular service at this moment to make our customers happy. It is not only demand of customer rather it also takes initiatives to reduce the cost of transport. Proper practice of documentations, operations, communication and efficient negotiation with shipping company can ensure less time and money and at the same time customers’ satisfactions.

Objectives:
Clear understanding of Shipping Procedures like documentations, operations, communications, negotiations and marketing of shipping and it’s modern tools techniques required for garments, export and import companies so that participants can use in their working place to ensure sustainable smooth growth of the company.

How participants will be benefited:
Participants will be able to learn Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) in Shipping and this learning will help them to work systematically, efficiently and professionally. Decision making process related with transportations sea, air and multimodal transport will be scientific and for that reason most of the decision will be correct. Negotiation and communication skill with shipping and air companies will be improved. Interdepartmental conflict will be minimized. Performance will be increased and manpower will be reduced due to proper planning of transportation. Rejection related with shipping documentations and operations will be reduced as a part of systemic approach of actions. Cost of transportations will be reduced.
