Introduction

Managers are charged with the responsibility of achieving organizational goals. Organizations operate by breaking these goals down into specific tasks and responsibilities for individuals and teams.

It is not sufficient for a manager to focus on task/responsibility achievement alone, as if in a vacuum of technicality. All managers and team leaders must take account of the basic fact that such tasks and responsibilities are achieved through people.

Best Practice People Management is all the more required in today’s complex organizations where higher levels of performance are repeatedly demanded and change is the only constant. It is critical that managers acquire the skills to manage the people in their teams as effectively as possible.

It is not uncommon to hear managers say: I’m here to get the job done and I don’t have the time for people management; that is the responsibility of the HR Department!. Such thoughts, or more importantly the behaviors that follow them, have no place in Best Practice People Management.

Managers at the front end of task accomplishment are in the best position to manage staff well. They should not shirk this responsibility or leave it for someone else to do. The manager must take full responsibility for both task and people management. Failure to manage both, will mean that the manager is not using the full armory at his/her disposal.

This workshop will help the participants to be able to understand the Role of Line Manager in different Functions and its impact for the goal achievement of the organization.
